Pair a challenging puzzle with some tasty treats during a kid's murder mystery party that you host for your child and their friends. Set the party up outdoors and use your creativity and some props to make the event intriguing and enjoyable for everyone who participates.

Intertwine The Clues With The Dinner

Use a store-bought murder mystery game, a suspense thriller, or a movie to help you come up with a storyline for the event. Write the storyline on a piece of notebook paper or card stock and make photocopies of it. You can either read the storyline aloud to everyone or pass out the copies and instruct the guests to review the information.

While the guests are eating, they will have the opportunity to discuss the murder mystery or ask one another some questions, which will assist with solving the crime. Assign a role to each attendee and provide some information about the characters. A list of questions or hidden clues will aid in solving the murder. Clues can either be hidden among the spread of food or you can serve dishes that are representative of parts of the crime.

For instance, if you decide to serve a frosted cake and would like to use the dessert as one of the clues, use icing to write a cryptic message or to draw a picture that is symbolic of a part of the crime across the top of the cake.

Get In On The Action

If you would like to forego assigning parts to the guests and would like to be one of the main actors or actresses in the murder mystery, provide the attendees with a visual representation of the moments leading up to the crime. You, your spouse, and some close friends and family members can each play a part in the production. Create a makeshift stage, which can be used when acting out various parts of the storyline.

As the guests arrive, welcome them and instruct them to sit down at the table that has a spread of food displayed on it. Provide the guests with a list of questions and allow them to work together in teams. As they enjoy their meals and watch the story unfold, they may be able to eliminate some of the suspects who are on the list. If a team is able to correctly identify who committed the crime, award the members with a prize that you have purchased for the occasion.
